Mongoose Holly

Release the Mongoose! Although there will probably be very few mongooses actually present.

HOORAY!!

I reached a bit of a milestone this week. 10% of my body weight, gone! That’s me a quarter of the way towards my goal in only, what, 8 weeks?

Either way, I’m thrilled but this is making me a bit complacent on the ol’ dieting front. I’m thinking ‘well I’ve done really well now. I deserve a treat.’ but this is dangerous thinking. Little treats are a slippery slope to giving up completely which I do not want to do. I’ve never done this well on my own before and I am FINALLY starting to see little differences in how I look. Got some cheekbones showing again and my jeans are trying to fall down all the time. It’s a good feeling. Long may it continue.

Week 6 I guess?

Well, this was a week of ups and downs.

On Monday we went to the Revival Tour, I got 2 autographs (Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem and Dave Hause of The Loved Ones), Dave Hause kicked me in the head and Dan Andriano played a song just for me. Bliss. Easily one of the best gigs of my life and we stuck to the diet around the gig as well.

Then on Tuesday we went to see Bowling For Soup. It was the 3rd of 4th time I’ve seen them, they’re great but really couldn’t live up to the night before. Suburban Legends were an amazing support though. Sadly, on the way to Southampton, we had KFC. Husband was 30 minutes late to be picked up and there was a football match in Southampton which meant the traffic was AWFUL. I was stressed and hungry. It’s no excuse really but it’s done now.

I’ve still lost weight which is great. 8.5% of my body weight is gone now.

At the moment it feels a bit like walking up a hill backwards. It looks like I’ve traveled a long way but every time I look at the top of the hill I know I’ve still got a long way to go. It’s a little depressing.

On the plus side my amazing friend is back from her time in Afghanistan and I’ve just had a lovely catch up and walk with her. Exercise and gossip is the best way!

Week….something. I forget

And I can’t be bothered to check.

It’s been a bit over a month since I started, I know that much. I’m very happy with my progress so far. I’ve lost over 7% of my body weight so far. I don’t see any change yet in how I look but my clothes are feeling looser and a couple of people have mentioned seeing a difference which is nice.

The weekend in Cardiff went pretty well. I cheated a couple of times but tried to keep it to reasonable cheats rather than big blowouts. Also no-one burgled my house whilst I was gone which is nice. Although Benjie makes me suspicious with his Waddlenator plans.

There’s not much more to say now. I just really want to be able to see a change soon!

Week 3 1/2

I know I’m a little late posting this one (Thank you Benjie ;) ) seeing as it’s Thursday already.

Most of the last week was fine for sticking to the diet, no cheating or sneaking bad food except for the BBQ we went to on Sunday.
A lovely little girl we know had her first birthday and we all got together to celebrate it. The cake looked beautiful, home made by my friends, and there was a great selection and abundance of food. Food I couldn’t eat except for a big bowl of tomatoes that I think I ate most of in the end.

My amazing friends, Vicky and Ben, had some vegetarian BBQ stuff which is much lower in fat and therefore more diet friendly which they offered to share. Very grateful to them as otherwise we’d just planned to eat very little and put up with it!

I did eat some jelly which didn’t taste sugar free but was 2 different colours so I couldn’t resist but the husband ate jelly, ice cream and a couple of slices of cake so I felt better!

My weight is fluctuating quite a bit at the moment but is staying over a 5% loss so that’s OK.

On Tuesday, I ate a hallowe’en creme egg. I don’t regret it :)

This weekend is going to be hard. We’re going to Cardiff for a housewarming party (please don’t burgle my house) and there will be eating and drinking and being merry.

Well, that’s it for now. Must go, the cat just got tangled in some power leads.

Week 2

OK, this week wasn’t great. I didn’t really cheat this week (there are a couple of things to be mentioned later) but it wasn’t great for weight loss.

I gave blood at the beginning of the week and due to a mix up on my records they thought I was likely to faint (AS IF!) ad they made me eat biscuits before they took my blood. I was a bit angry about that. Also my mum just came back from the holiday she left for before I started the diet and brought me back some sweets which I MIGHT have eaten a few of. Oops.

To be fair this is my first week of Cruise phase and the weight loss is supposed to slow down now AND it was ‘that time of the month’ which any lady can tell you means weight gain through water retention.

Even with all the biscuits, lady time and sweeties I’ve now reached just under 5% weight loss. Hooray!

Week 1

Wow!

My first week was amazing. It was all Attack phase so we just ate chicken, fish, 0% fat yoghurt and eggs. I wasn’t tempted to cheat once which is amazing for me really.

I lost just under 4% of my body weight in the first week. I am so happy with this! Almost double what the good doctor predicted!

Fingers crossed for the next week.

Day Three

OK, so I started on Monday, not Sunday. It’s not the end of the world.

So far I’m doing really well. Every morning I eat a bowl of 0% Greek yoghurt mixed with my oat bran allowance. It’s pretty tasty.

Lunch has been steamed chicken with rosemary or tuna with yoghurt and then for dinner I have salmon or haddock or chicken and poached eggs or a tasty omelette.

I’ve also been doing some excercise on Wii Fit every day.

I think it’s all going well but today I feel a bit ill. Hopefully this will pass and by the time I weigh myself on Sunday I’ll have something to celebrate!

Let’s do this.

I have reached a point now where my weight is unacceptable to me. Something must be done.

After long conversations with Mr Holly and an ongoing successful diet being used by a close friend we have decided to start the Dukan Diet. This is a high protein, low carb diet and according to the official website I’ll be on some form of it for the rest of my life. Oh goody!

I’ve decided to use this blog as a record of my success or failure. Fingers crossed for success though.

I don’t want to give my actual weight so we’ll take my weight today as 100%. I would like to reach 60-65%.

Tomorrow we start ‘Attack Phase’ which will be 7 days of pure protein. Fish, eggs, certain meats and low fat yoghurt are the allowed food groups this week so I’m off shopping.

Wish me luck!

The time I nearly had my own pterosaur…

When I was at university most of my lecturers were ‘in the field palaeontologists’ during the summer. During an expedition to Brazil one lecturer (an expert in pterosaurs) found a new species of pterosaur, however he only found a small part of the skeleton and couldn’t decide what to do.

One day, after class he stopped a small group of us and explained his dilemma. Should he use the piece he had to describe a new species and publish it OR wait until there was more evidence for his new find, risking someone else getting in there first. We all kinda shrugged with murmurs of ‘it’s your career’ so he rephrased the question.

‘Who would like a pterosaur named after them?’

I shot my hand up so fast! ‘Me me me me me!!!!’

He looked straight into my eyes, laid his hand on my knee and said

‘You realise you’d have to sleep with me’

We all laughed and he immediately shouted that he was joking ha ha ha and wasn’t it funny.
Later we all spoke about it and decided it would have been worth it. But I missed my chance.

I swear I could hear it laughing.

My car is not only sentient but also has the sense of humour of a small child.

I’m sure I even believe what happened to me this morning.

I went to the car this morning to get to work and it was all frosty, so I unlocked it and chucked all my stuff inside, including my keys, grabbed the de-icer and set to work on the windscreen. Once I was happy with the windows I went back to the driver side door and pulled the handle.

Somehow, the door locked. Let me repeat that. As I tried to open the door the car LOCKED ITSELF with my keys inside. I don’t have a spare.

I could almost hear the car sniggering at me. Must have thought it was really funny. I was locked out of my house and my car at below freezing temperatures.

My husband took his sweet time to let me back in the house.

After a few failed attempts to jimmy open the boot I called my breakdown assistance. A really nice guy came out and opened the car for me in a way I’d never even thought possible.

I thanked him profusely and tried to start the car. True to form the car, it’s fun now ruined, decided to sulk and after complaining it was too cold then announced the battery was flat. Thankfully the breakdown man hadn’t left yet so he gave me a jump start.

My car hates me.
